Dear students when you score low marks or when you fail to get what you want, you may feel bad and want to give up. Wait a minute, don’t lose hope. Talk to your parents, or friends or teachers, and share your problems, surely they will understand your situation. They will give you the hope and confidence to face the situation. They will help you to achieve what you want. To understand this better let me share a wonderful example that occurs in nature.
We all know that Sunflowers turn according to the position of the sun i.e., they “chase the sunlight.”
I think you might already know this, but there is another fact that you probably do not know!
Have you ever wondered what happens on cloudy and rainy days when the sun is completely covered by clouds?
This is an interesting question. Isn’t it?
Perhaps you think the sunflower withers or turns its head towards the ground.
Is that what you are thinking?
Well, that’s not what happens.
Actually what happens is "the sunflowers during those cloudy days turn towards each other to share their energy".
Nature’s perfection is amazing. Isn’t it.
Now let’s apply this reflection to our lives.
Many students may become low-spirited, and the most vulnerable ones, some-times, become depressed. When they fail to get what they want. They lose hope and start finding excuses.
How about following the example of the beautiful sunflowers i.e."Supporting and empowering each other". They live by sharing their energies with each other. Nature has so much to teach us.
During the pandemic, we all have seen how the actor Sonu Sood helped people who are in deep trouble. Because of his kind acts and deeds, he became a real hero. Let us all take him as an example and let us help the people in need. It need not be a financial help all the time, sometimes a pat on their back or a positive supporting word can lift their spirits and makes a lot of difference in their lives.
My dear young friends remember difficulties never last for long they will come for a reason, wait for the day where you can excel. It's ok to fail because you learn from your mistakes. Don't be afraid to fail.
Dear parents you must step up to support your child more, when they fail....that's when they need you more and they don’t panic and look down when they fail. Teach them to follow the sunflower trait. Dear parents listen to the reasons for their failure encourage them to talk to their teachers or mentors, they will give them the confidence(energy) to survive in the toughest times. Give them the confidence that you are there when they are out of energy. Teach them that there is nothing wrong with failure as we all know, we learn more out of our failures.
Even teachers have to support the students when they are not scoring marks as expected. When students know that you care about their progress they open up and express their problems. Students learn more from the teachers whom they like. So for teachers, it is very important to talk to the students when their grades are not up to the mark.
We can apply this “Sunflower trait” everywhere in our lives. If we give confidence (energy) to someone who is in trouble or who is in low spirit, it definitely helps them to fight back. I believe that sharing is caring. Collaborative work gives more results than individual work.
Let us follow the example of sunflowers and help each other in difficult times. When you help someone to the top of a hill, you will also be on the top of the hill. Remember we rise by lifting others.
Wishing everyone a “Sunflower trait" of turning towards each other on your cloudy and gloomy days.
Spread goodness...it will come back to you soon.
With warm regards
Venkatesh Panyam
