Call for Teachers

Those that are associated with teaching know that standard of education is on the decline.

Who is responsible for the present state of affairs.

Some say that the quality of students is on the decline. Some say that privatization is the cause.

Whatever be the cause, ultimately teachers are responsible for improving and maintaining standards.

Plenty of research is being carried out on teaching methodologies and content delivery. Despite all this, things seem to be sliding down.

In the present circumstances, what needs to be done. This has been troubling the teaching community. They are under tremendous pressure to show improvement.

Earlier, a class had 30 odd students.
Teachers could perceive the progress of the majority of the students. Today, a class has nearly 60 or more students. It is impossible to gauge the learning ability  and consequently to monitor or correct wherever necessary.

Keeping the above in view, I would like to remind the teaching community of the method they previously used but are reluctant to use it now.

We need to segregate the students into four categories.

Those that are self-motivated. They do not need much of your time.

The second category, they are motivated and highly active but lack direction. We need to orient them towards the direction they need to take and nudge them in that direction.

The third category is with little motivation and not very active. This group needs not only encouragement but also instilling confidence in the outcome if they put in the necessary effort. Every small achievement should be acknowledged and slightly higher targets should be assigned.

Last but not the least, no motivation and it is passive. They are like a stalled car. The only way is to push the car till it reaches the workshop.
Similarly, these students should be pushed till they reach their destination i.e. completion of studies.
