Climate change and Individual Responsibility

Climate change and Individual Responsibility

Climate change is the most sensitive and predominant issue humanity is facing today; and we the human race play a vital role in it.
Basically climate change the first to long term changes in temperature precipitate and other atmospheric conditions on earth. It is caused by human activities particularly emission of green gases. Main changes include global warming, extreme weather rising sea level, acidification of , altering of ecosystems, agricultural impact etc. Let’s study these conditions in detail.
  • Global warming: Combustion of carbon compounds like fossil fuels, wood, etc emit Carbon dioxide and Methane green house gases which trap the sunlight in the atmosphere leading to increase in temperature of the Earth.
  • Extreme weather changes: Climate change can also bring natural calamities like Hurricanes, Droughts, Floods, Heatwaves and Wildfires which have major impact on economy and community.
  • Rising of Sea-levels : Due to the Global warming addressed above polar icecaps and glaciers melt resulting in the Rise of Sea-level which can pose difficulty for people in coastal areas, promote flooding erosion and salination of fresh water resources as well.
  •  Acidification of Oceans and andother water resources: Increased level of Carbon and Sulphur dioxide cause acid rains, which eventually reach the rivers and thus the Oceans, moreover the water in the oceans and rivers absorb the carbon dioxide gas which leads to their Acidification, which is not a good thing for marine life.
  • Agricultural Impact: Due to the shift in climatic and precipitation patterns, there may be shifting in Agricultural patterns as well. Growing seasons may change, dropping in yields and productivity of the crop.
But despite all these alterations in the climate, we can be a bit responsible towards amplifying our climate through small but consistent habits. Some of them include:
  • Reduced Carbon footprint: Minimise the Carbon emission by cutting down the use of fossil fuels and organic compounds by using energy efficient and eco-friendly alternatives and usage of sustainable transportation like using cycles for short distances, public transport for long etc.
  • Sustainable Livelihoods: Making eco-friendly decisions and choices such as minimising the use of use and throw plastics, replacing tissues with cloth napkins and prioritising other nature friendly Alternatives.
  •  Plant trees and Support Conservation: We all know the impact of planting and Afforestation as these help the absorption of Carbon dioxide and letting out oxygen, improving precipitation conditions, reduction of Global Warming etc.
Individual actions when performed in unison have a significant amount of Impact on mitigating climate change. Simple yet consistent habits can change a lot in the future; so let’s start this Today!
