Climate change is recognized as a most serious threat facing humanity. No one is immune to its effects. The impact of climate variability and climate change on human and natural systems posses serious challenges to our objective of reducing poverty and achieving sustainable development.Climate change is the defining issue of our time and we are at a defining moment.
Individuals are responsible for thinking about their impact on the environment and when possible, minimize the damage they do to the planet.Indivdual initiatives when taken up by billions of people can reduce these climatic changes.
When global warming gets you down, come back stronger – Climate Change: Vital Signs of the Planet
The Earth’s climate has always changed and evolved. Some of these changes have been due to natural causes such as volcanic eruptions, floods, forest fires etc.The climate change is even due to some human activities such as deforestation, burning fossil fuels, release of CFC’s by our refrigerators and even generating an enormous amount of greenhouse gases. This results in the greenhouse effect and global warming which are the major causes of climate change.
The ozone layer of the Earth is depleting day-by-day in which harmful UV rays are entering into the earth which causes many skin diseases to humans.Climate change affects the food we eat,the air we breathe, the water we drink and the places that provide us with shelter.
A recent report from the United Nations predicted that the average global temperature could increase by 6° celcius at the end of the century.Climate  change has an adverse effect on environment and eco-system.The top five countries which are at risk of climate change are Somalia,The Democratic Republic of the Congo,Syria,Afghanistan,Yemen.

As per the recent research it is said that India may lose anywhere around 3-10% of its GDP annually by 2100 and its poverty rate may rise by 3.5% in 2040 due to this climate change.
So,in order to save our climate i.e., our mother earth, we need to make use of renewable energies such as wind energy, rooftop solar panels that work in tandem as “Virtual power plant” and hydro power.Now-a-days we can see that many schools ,institutions, homes are using solar power. Many houses should use this solar panels in different ways like for heating water, for the household electrical purposes.Better forestry management and sustainable agriculture practices should be put on.New smart appliances use sensors to adjust energy usage automatically. For example,
  • A smart fridge might adjust the amount of cooling based on how much is stored in the fridge.
  • Electric kettle: kettles with an automatic switch off feature is an excellent choice of saving energy. It gets switched off when the water gets heated to your required temperature.

Rice cookers: Rice cookers are great time savers that ensure you don’t over cook your rice. It’s a great             device that use less energy than boiling of water and cooking your rice on a stove-top.
  • Induction stove top: It is used on the principle of electromagnetic induction heat.Food heated up when pots are placed on top of the cooktop.So.this can save energy and natural gas.

Energy efficient,Eco friendly home appliances are great for the environment and reducing energy consumption and water usage in our homes.
Small acts multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world.

The future depends on what you do today…
Addressing climate change demands immediate and comprehensive action at the global level. It requires international cooperation, innovative policies and sustainable practices to preserve our planet for future generations.
Taking up this challenge is not a choice but an ethical imperative for humanity’s survival.
"The ‘I’ in the climate shows the responsibility of an individual."
