The Joy of Reading. Why one should read books.

A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies" - George R. R. Martin

Reading is akin to a reverie that brings you transient mirth and fleeting solace. There is no rapture greater than to lose oneself in worlds brought to life through ink on paper. A mere turn of papers could let you transcend time and space, have you transported eons from where you stand to somewhere that exists only in illusory daydreams. Reading is considered an escapade from reality, one moment you could just be on your way to work/school and the next you could be traversing through the cosmos with only words as your only confidante. A person who's read books has gained a lifetime's worth of experience. It's like you've got a room full of doors waiting in anticipation and each door holds a new world full of unknown intrigue. It gives you your own space, somewhere far from all the daily racket and rush, it is the haven you seek after going through a hard day at work/school. It's all you need to get through with the rest of your day.

Reading is not a pastime or a hobby rather it is education itself, no matter what book you pick up to read at the end of the day it ends up teaching you something or the other that you weren't aware of until you opened that book in particular. Reading in general helps you furnish your vocabulary not deliberately but through means of consistent practice and challenges. Never was I one to shy away from a book whose language seemed out of my grasp. It always motivated me to read it again and again until I could finally grasp what its essence was. Yes, you read books that you do not understand but the more you cannot accomplish something the more you yearn for it. This helps you improve yourself, hone your skills until you deem them perfected. Books enhance your imaginative and creative capabilities, you start thinking more about things in general, little things in daily life that you paid no mind to will start to seem more important. It helps you stay focused, it takes away all the weariness after a long day and gives you solace that helps you get through the next day. When you read through enough narrator's view points you have a grasp on how people inadvertently start thinking, you understand everyone better than you did yesterday. You start observing your surrounding and every little thing seems to tell a story, the little shop by the corner of the street with the eccentric owner or the cheerful little girl next door, or the book in the library with little notes, or the old tree near your neighbourhood that seems to have seen more history than your local history book, or the haunted house down just a few blocks from your house. One attains self-discovery through reading you have a grasp on what you believe in and your goals. Reading is the best form of introspection for one to put themselves in different shoes and think what they could have done differently to obtain a different outcome.
