1. How Are You Dressed?

Your attire speaks before you do. Dress in a way that is:

  • Suited to the occasion.

Avoid flashy outfits or glittery accessories. Simplicity works wonders, as it keeps the focus on your message and not your appearance.


2. How Is Your Posture?

Your body language speaks volumes:

  • Stand straight and poised, but remain comfortable.
  • Avoid leaning forward, backward, or putting your weight on the podium.
  • Keep your body in an attentive stance, with hands and feet relaxed.
  • Avoid unnecessary swaying or jumping, as it may distract your audience.

3. How Are Your Gestures?

Gestures enhance your speech when used effectively:

  • Start with hands lightly in front to avoid nervous movements.
  • Gradually allow your gestures to flow naturally, adding emphasis to your words.
  • Ensure that your gestures align with your message.

Avoid overusing hand movements or making conflicting gestures, as they can confuse your audience.

Your eyes are your most powerful tool to connect with your audience:

  • Look directly into the eyes of individuals.
  • Sweep your gaze across the entire room in smooth cycles, including the corners.
  • Eye contact grabs attention, builds rapport, and earns affection and applause.

When you look at your audience, you show them you care.


5. How Is Your Voice?

Your voice brings life to your lesson:

  • Modulate your tone to match the mood and content.
  • Use pauses effectively to emphasize key points.
  • Bring energy and drama to your speech through vocal variation.

Speak in a way that resonates with your students:

  • Use language that is comfortable for both you and your audience.
  • Avoid overly technical jargon or bookish language.

Questions from students are a good sign—they show engagement:

  • Answer questions confidently and honestly.
  • If you don’t know the answer, don’t bluff. Admit it gracefully and promise to follow up.
  • Keep your answers concise, and add a touch of wit or humor to lighten the atmosphere.

  • Include interesting and lesser-known facts to intrigue your students.
  • Begin with an attention-grabbing opening and conclude with a punchy, memorable closing.

Never underestimate the power of a smile:

  • A genuine smile warms the room, eases tension, and builds a positive atmosphere.
  • It shows your students that you’re approachable and happy to teach them.

Smiling makes you more relatable and helps you connect with your audience.
