Senior lecturer in mathematics with 32 years of experience Flat no 401,srisaimanisha enclave, RAJENDRA nagar vizag 16
I started teaching mathematics since 1989 in various levels viz Board of intermediate,C.B S.E BOARD 11TH&12TH,EAMCET,AIEEE,JEE MAINS AND ADVANCED. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT CONCEPT BASED TEACHING IS THE ONLY WAY THAN PROBLEM TO CONCEPTS APPROACH TO CREATE INTEREST IN MATHEMATICS.ALONG WITH TEACHING STUDENTS SHOULD BE TAUGHT HOW TO LEARN MATHEMATICS WITH PROPER GUIDANCE.WHERE EVER POSSIBLE BY GIVING REAL LIFE APPLICATIONS We CAN MAKE STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN CLASS WITH ENTHUSIASM.
I introduce my lesson from the known related ideas of the students previous class and give them concrete concepts of current lesson with its future applications and scope in first two or three classes ,where ever possible I ask students to write a summary of their understanding on the concepts covered and check randomly how they have written, also I will ask questions. After having a satisfactory discussion students will be familiar with the terminology, language and notations that will be used in the lesson, then I give them a comprehensive notes in a self explanatory form so that they can refer for their exam preparation. I assign problems based on the concepts covered and clarify their doubts. At the end I give them a project ( including the source)on the important concepts of the lesson along with applications .
Along with prescribed text books and material provided by the institution I advise students to refer treatises and monographs to develop interest on the subject, where ever possible I prefer activities using technology support!
I am not completely aware of it,but using the technology in preparing question papers.I found A.l is playing a predominant role in framing question papers and is providing answers to many complicated questions along with posing thought provoking questions. Still I need to learn it's role to improve my teaching skills.
1.By creating interest in students through participative teaching methods and giving its real life applications (where ever possible) 2.career opportunities for the different courses after completing their present course. 3.clarifying their doubts and making them believe that they can do with proper study plan that suits to their potential, I motivate my students.
By giving the following effective preparation tips. 1.How to utilise their presence in class room with focus on the teachers explanation and participating in asking and answering questions. 2.Importance of notes given by the teachers and how to add additional information to the notes from other available source 3. Completing the preparation with different strategies to different subjects with a proper time table during their self study . 4.A well suited coordination plan between chapterwise and cumulative preparation with the help of own important key points notes which can give complete idea on the difficult concepts to be prepared a few days/few hours before the exam. 5.stress mangement, time management and scoring techniques. 6.needed suggestions to parents.
Main flaw is students potential is tested purely on marks and ranks instead of assessing students ability in 1. understanding 2.knowledge3.application 4.skill and contribution through their creativity for the development of the subject . Along with written exam if students skills are tested through debates and group discussions among the peer group in the prescence of experts, quality in our present education system can be improved. More weightage should be given for creative ideas of students than a routine effective presentation, memory testing evaluation techniques.
